Mock Interviews for UofL Civil and Environmental Engineering Seniors

KSPE Louisville is pleased to announce that Mock Interviews were held for University of Louisville Civil and Environmental Engineering students October 18, 2006 through the ASCE Student Chapter.  The event was held to help seniors prepare for interviews in their job search, and it was a huge success! 13 senior civil engineering students participated and 12 professional engineers donated their time, giving a total of 24 individual interviews!

Each student was 'interviewed' for 20 minutes then got 10 minutes of feedback on what they did well and how they could improve when they go out on actual interviews.  The student's response was overwhelmingly positive.  Students appreciated getting such honest feedback in a one-on-one setting from the point of view of real-life potential interviewers.  The volunteers enjoyed the experience as well.  Painful memories of their own job search right out of college seemed to be the main motivation for wanting to help our next generation of engineers!  In addition to trading stories about the toughest interview, the volunteers shared some of the questions they like to ask and attributes sought after in candidates - to also help them become better interviewers!

The University of Louisville's ASCE Student Chapter is one of the best and most active in the country.  Winners of state, regional, and national awards, they set the gold standard in stressing the importance of becoming involved in their profession.  The Louisville Branch's Younger Member Group has been working closely with U of L in order to promote interaction between the practicing engineering community and students. Plans are already being made to build on this year's success and expand this event beyond senior civil engineering students.

Thanks to all the KSPE volunteers who made this possible!
